2022 KNITTING FRIENDSHIP RETREAT IN THE BERKSHIRE MOUNTAINS

We have the perfect setting and charming venue for our 2022 Knitting Friendship Retreat, November 11 - 13, 2022, and we'd love for you to join us. The setting is the lovely Berkshire Mountains in western Massachusetts and the venue is the Historic Red Lion Inn, a quintessential New England Inn with unsurpassed hospitality and accommodations.

Three full days to craft and learn –You asked for more, and we listened! Activities kick off with breakfast Friday morning and keep you engaged throughout the weekend.

Project kits for all levels of knit and crochet  - Each registration includes a retreat project kit. You'll choose from a variety of knit and crochet designs, many new for 2022, by Claudia Wersing, Jody Long, Melissa Leapman, Rosemary Drysdale, Christina Mershon, Carla Patrick, Karen Klein and others, featuring Noro, Queensland, Mirasol, Juniper Moon Farm and Ella Rae. Project choices will be posted in August. Kits and yarns are chosen in advance at one-on-one consultations, and are ready for your hooks and needles at Event Check-in.

Swatch and learn at daily Stitch Demo/Clinics – Learn something new or brush up on your skills with 60-minute segments designed to get you out of your comfort zone and into new stitches and techniques.  Demo/Clinics include exclusive video links for future reference. Participate in all or choose a few. It’s up to you.

  • Cables –
    • Remove the mystery and stress of learning cables and add dimension and interest to your projects
  • Short Rows –
    • Shape garment necklines and bodies or create a motif in a garment using short row techniques
  • Seaming/Finishing –
    • Projects are limitless when you add seaming to your skill pool.
  • Bobbles –
    • Another 3-dimensional stitch that adds interest to projects.
  • Welting –
    • Create a knitted hem or add interest to a pattern with welting.
  • Provisional cast on –  
    • A temporary cast on that holds live stitches that will be knitted later.

Paulette Meijer, Owner, KnittyGrittyYarnGirl - With decades of experience, Paulette

PAULETTE MEIJER adapted the attitude, “I’ll try anything when it comes to knitting,” early on. That attitude has gotten her into hundreds of projects and out of several knitting disasters.  As the owner of KnittyGrittyYarnGirl online and mobile yarn shop, Paulette transfers that attitude as she coaches knitters through projects and KAL’s. Paulette is currently pursuing her Master Knitters Certification.

Pam Atkins – Pam is an avid knitter and gardener. She has a fantastic eye for color and design and is impeccable in her knitting skills. In addition tPAM ATKINSo Pam’s personal knitting, she is a sample knitter for designer, Jody Long.

Come in Pieces…Leave Whole – Whether you come with a group or travel solo, you’re sure to make new friends. During Knit & Chat open knitting, while playing games, or breaking bread, there’s a friendship opportunity around every corner every day.

Enjoy Stockbridge's quaint Main Street and shops within walking distance or relax on a rocker at the front porch. Games, Prizes and Giveaways Galore – There’s never a shortage of special treats for attendees and great things are in store for you to enjoy with ice breakers, scavenger hunts, yarn giveaways.

Giving Back – Try your luck for great prizes at our very special fundraiser where your favorite charity will have a chance to receive the monies raised.

Got Stash? – Bring a hank, skein or ball from your stash for the yarn swap.

Trunk Shows – Feast your eyes on seasonal and all-time favorites from Araucania, ArtYarns, Jody Long, Juniper Moon Farm, Mirasol, and more.

Optional Non-knitter meal package - Do you have someone who wants to join you and doesn't knit? No problem...we've created a special non-knitters meal option that includes Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner on Friday and Saturday, Friday Reception and Breakfast and Lunch on Sunday. Non-knitter packages must accompany a knitter's registration.

The Venue – Accommodations -

We recognize that schedules vary. Some attendees will arrive early and/or stay late to enjoy the town, while others will travel on a tight schedule. Therefore, hotel accommodations are separate from the event Registration and are booked directly through the resort at 413-298-5545. Mention KnittyGrittyYarnGirl event for special rates. 

The Red Lion Inn is offering special group pricing for the weekend and waived the Preservation (resort) Fee. Rooms rates are $205/night Room rates are per night and rooms accommodate up to 4 people.

Registration is non-refundable. If the event is cancelled, you will receive a refund less $100 for your project kit, which will be mailed free of shipping.

Getting to the Red Lion Inn – The inn is about an hour and 20 minutes from Bradley (Hartford, CT), an hour from Albany, New York and 2-1/2 hours from Logan (Boston), Train stations are approximately one hour away in Hudson, New York, and Wassaic, New York. Driving services are available and cars can be rented in Hudson.
